Greenfield Center, NY –January 21, 2010 – The Saratoga Gift Basket Company of Greenfield Center, NY (Saratoga County) was awarded WBE (Women’s Business Enterprise) certification by the New York State Empire State Development.  WBE certification is awarded to firms operating in NYS that are 51% women owned, operating and controlled after an extensive review process.

As a certified WBE in NYS, The Saratoga Gift Basket Company is eligible to participate in Empire State Development programs including purchasing initiative, professional development and networking opportunities.  In addition to the statewide programs, the NYS certification will also be utilized within the private sector as many larger businesses have developed supplier diversity programs to increase their corporate spending with minority and women owned enterprises.

According to company founder, Rebecca Cronin, “the WBE certification is a great mechanism for women owned businesses to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace.  When I attended the SBA Matchmaker event, every agency and business that I met with asked if the business was certified”.  The Saratoga Gift Basket Company plans on utilizing the WBE certification to identify new business opportunities.
